Advice for using your motor
It is recommended to 'break-in' a new motor and gearbox before use, this is done by running for 3-4 minutes continuously in both directions (polarity one way then the other) at a low voltage (approx half nominal voltage). This ensures that all of the gears and bearings are running freely before being subjected to loading and that the motor brushes are well seated on the commutator.
All of the motors feature a built-in cooling fan and four radial air vents towards the rear of their bodies. These should be left uncovered to minimise risk of overheating - use mesh or a fine grill to provide some sheilding if you're worred about dirt/objects entering the motor. If you fully cover these vents you run the risk of overheating and we cannot provide replacements for motor failures caused because of this.

If you have purchased a GR01 in the past, full spares stocks and customer support is available, please get in touch if you need anything. This motor will be superceded by the GR02 in late October (2012)
The
GR01
is a planetary gearbox and DC (direct current) electric motor combination designed to provide a high power, compact and easily mounted electric drivetrain solution. The motor is ideal for a wide range of applications from robotics through to special effects.Three different motor versions are available with identical body size and nominal operating voltages of 9.6V, 12V or 18V, please see the 'motor specifications' column for operating data for each of these motors.
A range of accessories are available for this motor including wheels and shaft mounting hubs which can be found here.
